MapleSteps (maplesteps.ca) is an independent website that publishes free guides for newcomers to Canada. It is not a government website.
Information we collect
You can use MapleSteps without creating an account or giving us any personal information. If you email us, we receive your email address and your message, and we use them only to reply to you.
Your checklist and language choice
Ticks on the first-steps checklist and your language choice are saved only in your own browser (local storage). They are not sent to us. You can clear them at any time with the "Clear my checklist" button or in your browser settings.
Cookies and advertising
MapleSteps is free because it shows ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
How to opt out of personalized ads
You can turn off personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at youradchoices.ca (Canada) or aboutads.info. In some regions, including the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you will be asked for your consent before personalized ads are shown.
Hosting and statistics
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical data, such as IP addresses, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. We may use privacy-friendly statistics to count visits. We do not sell personal information.

Our guides link to government and other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read.
Children
MapleSteps is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
